Thank you for the opportunity to announce the foundation of the European Airway Management Society (EAMS). Initial interest of airway experts at a meeting during Euroanaesthesia in Glasgow (United Kingdom) on June 1, 2003 led to the formation of the society. The founding charter was signed at a meeting in Glasgow on December 4, 2003 at the same time of the Difficult Airway Annual Scientific Meeting. The society gained legal status on December 22, 2003. The executive officers are Ulrich Braun (Goettingen, Germany) as president, John J. Henderson (Glasgow, United Kingdom) as secretary, and Peter Biro (Zuerich, Switzerland) as treasurer.

The EAMS web site is now taking membership applications and contains information on the bylaws and meetings of the society. The first scientific meeting will be part of Euroanaesthesia in Lisbon (Portugal) on June 6, 2004, with additional workshops on the following day. The anesthesia, intensive care, and emergency medicine community with interest in airway management is invited to consider joining the society and to participate in its meetings and workshops.
