Macintosh laryngoscope (see Figures 1 to 4) from the Collection of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the Institute for the History of Medicine in Vienna (Austria) [catalog number: currently not cataloged]: the laryngoscope blade (corresponding to current blade size 3) and the special battery handle were manufactured by the instrument maker Carl Reiner (Vienna, Austria).
The blade block of this laryngoscope is fitted with a hook-on mechanism for attachment to a special battery handle and with a posterior spring clip for fastening the blade in the working position; the blade can be disambled from the handle in the folded position. The curve of the blade (as in the original design) has a slight but distinct flattening of the midportion. The vertical ends abruptly away from the tip of the blade.
